Fred Barbieri's F1 IND Subway Line, continued
Downloading and Installing
Downloading and installing is somewhat lengthy, even with
broadband. You will need the route, dependent rolling stock and a few other
things like Xtracks and NewRoads. All are available at train-sim.com for free. My advice is to
download the route, then carefully follow the instructions laid out in the
readme file in the Release Documents folder. It's a careful, detailed process, but one that
pays off big time. You should have no difficulty following the instructions,
which are clear and well laid out.
Just to give an idea of what you'll need, I've listed the dependencies:

and Frederick Dreany has released a texture fix for the R-4 and R-9 cars:
R4 And R9IND Texture Fixf
For installing downloaded activities, you will need tsunpack.zip from train-sim.com.
Activities
Activities can make a route come alive, and do so with the F1 IND. The route comes with 17 activities, 4 of which are exploratory and require nothing of the operator except to start the train and set the throttle to 50%. I've summarized them all below. So far I've tried about a third of the activities and enjoyed them immensely. Joe Korner, who provided assistance with the activities, has posted an additional activity, which I've included in the list. All activities are considered easy.

Other Routes By Fred Barbieri
After I explored the F1 IND, I discovered Fred had created two earlier NYCTA subway routes. These are also at train-sim.com.
- F1 IRT v1.0 - NYC subway/elevated route
incorporating the elements of the IRT
Lexington Avenue and Broadway Lines. The route is actually three routes in one. It has an East Side Line, a West Side Line and a Light Rail Line.
- F1 Transit v1.0 - NYC
Subway/Elevated freelance route incorporating the elements of the IRT Lexington Avenue and Broadway Lines, the first subway built
in New York in 1904. The route has a main 4 track line with express and local
uptown/ downtown service fed by 5 branch lines, portions of which are elevated
or run on the surface.
I'll try to cover them in another aticle.
