Jamesport, a Seaside Railroad (Continued)
By John D'Angelo
Car is picked up and SW7 heads for South Jamesport.
Coming to South Jamesport.
Backing to the fish factory.
Delivery made.
That is a representation of the basic operation, but it will get busier in time. The next time the SW7 delivers a reefer, there will be a filled reefer in the siding. Drop off the empty reefer, pick up the filled reefer and return to the Jamesport yard. The next freight will drop off a new reefer and pick up the filled reefer for delivery to Riverhead. In addition you, as the operator of the “fish freight,” will have to be on the lookout for the shuttle and mainline traffic. Things can get interesting pretty quickly!
I have created a CDP file of the Jamesport route for distribution via VirtualRailroader.com Downlaods page. This route uses only standard issue items from TRS2006 and has no third party scenery. All you need to operate is the CDP file; then you can add your own rolling stock. You can also add operating industries such as LARS and cars if you wish.
If you are new to AI operation I would suggest that you start operating in stages. First create the push-pull shuttle and place it at Aquebogue. Program it by editing the session and then run it to be sure it runs properly. After you are sure the shuttle is working properly you can program the portals to generate passenger trains in both directions.
Finally, you can program the Greenport portal to send out a freight train with the reefers. Program it to stop at the freight siding at Jamesport, wait for one minute, then continue to the Riverhead portal. Place a locomotive in the Jamesport yard that will pick up the dropped off reefer and take it to the fish factory. When the freight arrives, take over command, drop off the reefer, then have the freight continue on. Pick up the reefer and deliver it to the fish factory.
Well, that is the basic operation, have fun experimenting with it and enjoy the rest of your summer!
John
