Union Central 2008
By John D'Angelo

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME TO 2008. To start off the year, I recreated my United Central route, which has been at the Trainz Download Station (DLS) for a number of years in various configurations. This version of the route has been made for distribution from Al Barten’s Virtual Railroader Downloads page and it does not contain custom material. If you have TRS2006 SP-1, the route can be run “out of the box.” For my illustrations I used my United Central lettered equipment, but the route will look fine with whatever running gear you would like to run.
The Union Central route has been reconfigured to become a point-to-point system running from Central City to San Simeon, passing through Springfield where the main yard and passenger terminal are located. It is now a two-track mainline for the entire length to facilitate two-way traffic, and has portals located at each end of the route. Below is a map of the route showing the baseboards and the cities of Central City, Springfield and San Simeon. Central City and San Simeon are really just portals for the movement of trains east and west through the route.

Springfield yard in detail.
For those of you who have used the United Central route in the past, these images will be familiar since this route is a variation of it. If you have not previously downloaded the United Central route, I would like to describe the operation of the route to you. The Union Central is a sample of United States railroading with a landscape that changes from the metropolitan eastern seaboard through the Midwest to the west coast. We’ll leave from Central City aboard the Sunrise Limited.

The Sunrise Limited.
My westbound first class Limited is the Sunrise Limited, which is generated by the portal representing Central City. The train uses F type A/B/A diesels with streamlined cars, created by using Trainz Paint Shed.

Woodside.
As the Limited passes through Woodside, an airliner lands at Connell International Airport, located in Woodside. (Continue)
