White Mountain Winter, a Holiday Gift, Continued

By John D'Angelo

There are other locomotives and freight cars already in Fryeburg yard for use as needed. The basic idea is that you can enjoy the passenger run to Sugarloaf, and/or you can run freight operations as you wish. Here are some pictures of the Skier’s Limited in operation:

The Skier’s Limited.

Arriving at Fryeburg Station.

Leaving Fryeburg as the sun sets.

Entering the White Mountains.

Night has fallen.

1:20 AM rrrival at Sugarloaf.

That is the basic Skier’s Limited run. Of course I didn’t show all the station stops along the route to Sugarloaf. You can save the session in action and continue the operation a number of different ways. You could let the Skier’s Limited stay at Sugarloaf and work with freight runs from Fryeburg to Sugarloaf and back. You could turn around the Limited’s locomotive and head back to Fryeburg. With the speeded up clock it will be daylight when you get there. I made the freight depot in the Fryeburg yard so that it will load material into a boxcar. Empty boxcars are in the yard and empty log cars are also in the yard ready to be used. In addition, the 4-8-4 will be stopping at the yard at intervals and you can deliver any cars needed to the yard for freight use. Don’t forget about the mainline traffic via Center Conway, you’ll always have to keep an eye peeled for that.

I have one last item for you. Since this is a winter route and it is the holiday season, I think it would be great if you decorated the route. Put out some Christmas Trees, hang out some lights and do other things to your layout to make it more festive. I am going to let you do that by yourself, but I will give you a little help. On this web site we have a copy of the November-December 2004 issue of Virtual Railroader. In that issue I wrote an article entitled “Download Gold, Happy Holidays.” In that article I have listed an amount of holiday related items along with their KUID numbers. A number of these items are at the DLS for downloading if you wish and others can be found as standard issue in Trainz. Please use that list to find the holiday touches you would like to use for your layout. The main thing I want you to do with this route is to have fun!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

John
