Rolling Stock
Northbay County comes with the following rolling stock for the 2-foot gauge GRR:
- Shay gear-driven steam locomotive by Ben Neal
- Beyer-Garratt steam locomotive by Peter Pardoe-Matthews
- Ore cars with dynamic loading/unloading by Rich Blake
- Coal cars with dynamic loading/unloading by Peter Pardoe-Matthews and Rich Blake
the following rolling stock for the 3-foot gauge NLC
- Vulcan Diesel locomotive by Peter Pardoe-Matthews (note that there is an update to this locomotive at the DLS)
- Diesel shunter by Peter Pardoe-Matthews
- Flat cars with dynamic loading/unloading by Rich Blake
- Skeleton log cars with dynamic loading/unloading by Rich Blake
- Coal cars with dynamic loading/unloading by Peter Pardoe-Matthews and Rich Blake
NLC Vulcan Diesel at Northbay Lumber Mill in correct color scheme. A funny thing happened on the way to the publisher and the locomotive packaged with TRS2006 ended up with the wrong roof and walkway color. An update at the DLS corrects the error.
Diesel shunter on Rockport Coal Transfer trestle.
GRR Shay at Rockport Coal Transfer trestle loading coal cars.
GRR Garratt #2 at Gossen Town Yard.
Additional rolling stock can be gotten from the Trainz Download Station (DLS) and Sirgibbys TrainZone website. Among others, theres the 3-foot gauge 0-6-2 Baldwin by Ben Neal, the West Side Lumber Company Shay by Rich Blake, the Climaxes by Peter Pardoe-Matthews and the Heisler by Dirk Mewes, all at Sirgibbys. You may also want to get from the same place the D&C; Speeder by Rich Blake for providing tourist excursions and transporting loggers and miners to and from their places of work.
Workin on the Railroad
Just as in real life, the narrow gauge lines are all about hauling raw materials and finished products. All industries and freight cars on the Northbay County lines take advantage of Trainzs dynamic loading/unloading capabilities. This makes for realistic railroading since all goods being transported are done so in open cars. Your job as operator will include loading and unloading cars as well as transporting them.
The layout comes with five scenarios. You can easily set up your own operating sessions once you are familiar with the layout.
Scenarios. The following scenarios come with TRS2006:
- Camp 2 Job (NLC, Medium, 30 Minutes)
Load logging skeletons at Camp 2, bring loads to Rockport and unload at Dry Sort yard
- Coal Mine Run (GRR, Easy, 85 Minutes)
Take 4 ore cars to Mine #1, load cars, take loads to Rockport Coal Transfer and unload
- Gossen Coal Run (GRR, Medium, 90 Minutes)
Fill coal cars at Rockport Coal Transfer, take loads to Gossen Yard and fill coal bunkers there, then go to mines and fill each coal bunker there
- Gossen Ore Run (GRR, Easy, 30 Minutes)
Bring empty ore cars to Eagle Ridge Mine
- Gossen Princess Ore Run (GRR, Difficult, 120 Minutes
Take 14 ore cars to Princess Mine, load cars, take loads to Lucky Mill, unload and return empties to Gossen Yard
Build Your Own Operating Sessions. You can set up your own operating sessions by placing rolling stock in Surveyor, saving the session and switching to Driver mode.
Traffic is as follows:
- NLC (3-ft) carries coal from Mines #1 and #2 to Rockport Coal Transfer
- NLC carries logs from Camps #1 through #8 to North Bay Lumber Mill
- NLC carries lumber via flatcar from North Bay Lumber Mill to points beyond the peninsula
- NLC carries passengers throughout 3-ft gauge line using D&C; Speeder (need to download from Sirgibbys)
- GRR (2-ft) carries ore from Princess Mine and Gold Eagle Mine to Old Lucky Mill and Refinery
- GRR carries coal from Rockport Coal Transfer to Gossen Town Yard, Princess Mine and Gold Eagle Mine
- D&RGW; (standard gauge) carries freight between Portal and Rockport Terminus
